Getting Even More Channels

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 1:29 pm by admin

It’s amazing how quickly we adjust to our current position. If you give someone a huge amount of money they will very quickly get accustomed to their new lifestyle and once more be wanting to live beyond their means.

The same goes with television. For years we made do with four or five channels, wishing there were a few more, but still ultimately fairly content with our lot. Then came the ubiquity of Freeview and the chance to experience numerous channels for just a very small one-off charge. But quickly this too became familiar and we all started wanting even more channels.

And thankfully, we can now get exactly that. With Freesat you can not only get a much more reliable service no matter where you are in the country, but you can also get a vast array of extra channels, all for pretty much the same price as a Freeview set top box.

The only extra you will need is a satellite dish rather than standard TV aerials, but even these won’t be much to install if you contact professional aerial installers. For those who get poor quality signal through their current TV aerials or simply wish to extend the number of channels they can watch greatly without having to pay subscriptions, Freesat is the perfect answer.

If you have a HDTV you can Freesat in HD too, or you can simply go out and get yourself a new HD TV with Freesat built in. Like many other types of TV now, there is also a Freesat Plus option where you can pause, rewind and record live TV whilst watching another program.

So if you want more from your television experience why not get onto professional aerial installers now and find out exactly how you can benefit from this great new format.

Recording Live TV

Posted on December 17, 2010 at 10:26 am by admin

With VHS a thing of the past, there was a brief period when it was hard to find a way to record live TV without hooking up that old VHS player and sticking in a tape, then spending hours scrolling through the result to find the start or end, or indeed any of the content you recorded. Once you had finally found it, the quality quickly reminded you why VHS was a thing of the past.

That was, unless you had Sky. Sky Plus lets you pause, rewind and record live TV easily, effectively and with great quality. For those with just terrestrial TV, however, there was very little that could be done. However, with the digital changeover already underway, most people have or are in the process of getting some kind of digital set top box, or a television with Freeview or Freesat included. However, some people are unaware that for very little extra cost, they can easily get Freeview Plus or Freesat Plus.

Working in the same way as Sky Plus, these systems let you record TV whilst watching another channel, and let you store huge numbers of programs on the built-in hard drive for you to keep or watch and simply delete.

For those wanting such facilities, checking the health of your current set-up is a must. Recording your favourite program only to return home to find that it froze halfway through is going to be downright infuriating. You may find the answer is simply that you need a new TV aerial installation or simply that the aerial is not pointed the right way for optimum reception.

Whatever the reason, getting TV aerial installation can be both cheap and easy. The aerial installers will usually be able to recommend the best choice for your area too, whether it be Freeview or Freesat or something different, so it is worth talking to the aerial installers before you rush out and buy that new system.

Getting a New Aerial

Posted on December 7, 2010 at 2:21 pm by admin

It can be very tempting to try and do the work yourself when it comes to new aerial installations. If your signal isn’t very strong or the picture keeps freezing there is a chance that you will need new digital TV aerials, especially for those who want to receive the right channels in the digital changeover.

If you are handy around the house, then you may decide that you don’t need an expert and instead just need a ladder and a few tools and you’ll be on your way. However, with aerial installations, if you want to ensure that you get the best picture and the full range of channels, there is a good chance that you’ll need to get it done professionally.

Talking to the experts will also help you understand which digital option is best for you. Different areas, even different estates within a town or city will have different signal strengths, whilst certain locations may have signal blocked by certain physical objects. Therefore, whilst for one road Freeview may be perfect, for others it may be much more beneficial to go for Freesat to ensure clarity and choice.

Even with the right digital TV aerials, the installation can go wrong if you don’t know exactly where you need to point it, or how to hook it up for optimum impact.

So, not only should you shy away from such operations yourself unless you happen to be a qualified expert, when looking for the right company to carry out the installation, you should check that they have both the knowledge and experience to get the job done right.

They should have knowledge of your area, be able to discuss with you beforehand all your options and give advice on the best ones for you without bias.

Digital TV Aerials Hit the Channel Islands

Posted on November 17, 2010 at 12:00 pm by admin

Digital TV aerials will now be needed in the Channel Islands to watch television as the digital switchover has reached the islands.

TV aerials that had previously provided the islands with four analogue channels were switched off earlier this week as the island followed suit from the rest of the United Kingdom as it gets set to go digital.

Now, digital TV aerials and Freeview or sky boxes will be able to pick up stronger and better quality digital television. There will also be more channels on offer as well as radio stations and interactive services such as the popular “press the red button” service.

Those living on the island were reminded to tune in their Freeview boxes or Freeview enabled televisions in order to start receiving the digital channels that are now available.

Speaking to the BBC, Bill Taylor from Digital UK said that so far the switchover process had gone according to plan.

He said: “ Islanders have taken switchover in their stride.

“I would just like to say thank you to the islanders of Guernsey, Alderney and Sark for helping to make switchover so smooth.”

Over the next few years the whole of the country will be switching from analogue television to digital. This is due to be completed by 2013 and is being completed in different stages in order to minimise any disruption to normal services.

Regardless of whether the area a viewer lives has already gone digital or not – anyone can choose to go digital now by buying a Freeview box which also offers a number of additional channels such as BBC3 and Film Four.

It is possible that the viewer’s television may already be digitally enabled so they will not have to buy an additional digital box. For everyone however, the channels will still be received through a digital aerial or satellite dish.

Digital TV aerials for the Scottish switchover

Posted on November 10, 2010 at 12:00 pm by admin

Analogue TV aerials will not be of much use in Scotland in a few months time when the country switches to using digital TV aerials and receivers.

Digital TV aerials and receivers will pick up better quality digital channels in around six months when Scotland launches its own digital switchover.

This switchover process has been set up by the Government and will see regions around the United Kingdom switching to digital television at different times. It is hoped that by making this a gradual process, there will be less confusion and the whole process will be managed more smoothly.

The countdown to the switchover in Scotland was marked by television star, Lorraine Kelly who started the countdown on her television show which was watched by thousands of viewers.

In six months, around four million viewers will be unable to view television from traditional analogue TV aerials as Scotland follows the rest of the United Kingdom in going digital.

For those who are confused or worried about the prospect of going digital and what difference it will mean to their regular television viewing, there will also be help available from the Switchover Help Scheme and Digital UK.

In fact, £3 million has been reportedly spent on the public awareness campaign to advise viewers on what they need to know about the switchover.

As part of the support available, older and disabled people will receive letters and brochures explaining what is going to happen. They will also be offered practical advice on what type of equipment and aerials they will need in order to receive digital signals.

For all viewers, there will be a large amount of roadshows for them to attend where they can ask questions from experts. There will also be advertisements on the television, radio and local press

TV Aerials Will Not be Removed in Malta

Posted on November 3, 2010 at 12:00 pm by admin

TV aerials will not be removed by force in Malta once the digital switchover comes into effect next year, it has been revealed.

TV aerials that will not be able to pick up the new digital signals will now be removed only at the discretion of the homeowner, admitted a spokesperson for The Malta Communications Authority.

This announcement comes after growing speculation surrounding whether these rooftop TV aerials would need to be ripped down and for new digital versions to be put by aerial installation companies.

Malta will be following suit from other countries around the world when its analogue aerials will be upgraded to digital viewing.

With the digital switchover taking place on 1st February there will also be six free-to-view digital channels for all viewers to enjoy. However, in order to receive these channels and other digital services, Maltese residents will need to have a rooftop UHF aerial that will need to be attached to a short pole.

If households are already watching digital television at home, the likelihood is that they already have one of these aerials and will not need to upgrade to another model. In the same way, the Malta Communications Authority has also stated that modern LCD or LED plasma televisions will probably already have the digital tuner and receiver built in to them.

Older television sets will more than likely need to get an external receiver. According to the Authority, these are on sale at present for an average price of around €30.

It is hoped by switching to digital media, viewers will be able to enjoy a more interactive and better quality viewing experience.

Viewers in Scotland are also counting down the days to the digital switchover which is also due to take place in six months time.

Get the Most Out of Your TV

Posted on October 27, 2010 at 12:00 pm by admin

Some people believe that when it comes to digital television, you simply plug in the set top box and the TV experience you get is exactly the same as everyone else is experiencing. However, for those people who are experiencing blurred images or freezing pictures, there is a lot more that can be done than simply moaning about it.

Not only that, but those people who are experiencing such problems, will most likely not be receiving all the channels they possibly could, and are therefore missing out on even more of their potential television experience.

The possible reasons are numerous – it could be anything from living in a poor signal area, to having the wrong TV aerials right through to simply not having the aerial pointing the right way. Then again it could simply be an unfortunately placed tree or a simple loose connection. Whatever the answer is, there is a chance that something can be done about it.

Calling out an engineer will often be a simple and fairly cheap way for you to get to the bottom of the problem and finding out whether you need anything from repairs to new aerial installations or whether you simply just need to point your TV aerials in a different direction.

Aerial installations are typically well worth the money in the long run for the few who will find themselves needing it due to an ancient current receiver or an unfortunately poor signal strength in the area. With such a small outlay, the entire experience of watching TV can be totally transformed giving you significantly higher quality, more channels available to you and no more freezing just when your favourite show is getting to the best bit.

So if you’re experience problems, don’t suffer them in silence, get an engineer out today and enjoy the real home TV experience.
